Wait the world of Steven Universe has never had wars??? That’s pretty cool, where’d you learn about this kind of stuff?
I like how she chooses her spear over her swords in combat, since it is proven, that a spear has advantages over swords especially because of its range. This makes much sense to me. But of course it can also shoot lasers so of course she would use this. Before she had to use swords, because she probably couldn't summon her spear yet.

Theory: in area one (or after), pearls had spears to protect their masters from any danger during colonization.

Pearl never left her master, because she served Pink, and was with rose, and is now with Steven which is pink/rose.
In the episode, A Single Pale Rose, inside pearl's pearl, you can see that she has a collection of items inside her gemstone. This makes sense as she's a servant to other gems, so she'd probably need the ability to carry things around with ease. Then, I realized something, inside the gem was also a huge amount of spears and swords. This got me thinking about gem weapons. Maybe Pearl never actually had a gem weapon, and Pink Quartz (what in calling rose/pink diamond ) must've asked Bismuth to make weapons for Pearl. This is why Pearl always reaches for her gemstone to get her weapon, just like she's getting other items from the gem stone. But what about other gems with weapons? My second example will be Garnet as she also pulls her weapon from her gem in a way. My question is where and who did Garnet even get the weapon type from, Sapphire or Ruby? Throughout the show, a Sapphire ' only ability is future vision, which Garnet has aswell. So that would mean the weapon came from Ruby correct? Well… the show doesn't actually explain this. Ruby herself, or any other ruby never attempts to bring out a type of mini gauntlet or anything. The closest thing we've seen so far was that ruby with one eye's dagger, but that's it. And it's not like Garnet has storage capabilities like Pearl as the fusion partners that make up Garnet never had those either, so how in the world does Garnet have gloves? Then I realized something, Lapis, Bismuth, Peridot, and others never had any weapons to begin with, just special powers like easy shape shifting, water manipulation, and magneto. This makes me to believe that maybe the gems are using some sort of gem tech connected to their gems made by Pearl to summon weapons in times of need. And Jasper had that helmet thingy, so maybe the gems in homeworld had this tech too! Heck, even the diamonds only have special powers (except pink, but I'll get into that). Now, the only peeps with unexplained weapons are Steven and Pink Bob (jk Steven). I have reason to believe that Steven doesn't have a gem weapon, and the shields are just part of his unique powers. I feel that maybe Pink Diamond's original powers were supposed to be supportive, as in protect others with energy shields, heal them with "licks", and being a jester to entertain them! I believe that Pink Quartz learned to evolve her powers to look like a shield, and it's sorta obvious that her powers don't need to be pulled from the gemstone. So, it is obvious to say that, Gems are weird…
BUT THEN… I REMEMBERED SPINEL COULD PULL A REJUVINATOR WHICH ISN'T EVEN HER WEAPON OUT OF HER GEM. And Spinel isn't even a servant or anything. Oh wait… Spinel is a jester, as in spinel probably needed to carry things as well… nvm

I think durning the war Pearl must be at the same time by Pink Diamond and by Rose Quartz. There is a chance that she learn master of swordfighting so never summon a spear agenst homeworld gems so noone can get it that this is same pearl. Pearl was given to Pink, so diamonts must have know her well. And so, if standing next to Blue Diamond, she summon a spear, someone of diamond's court might recognize her

Pearl used a sword for the first times we saw her because being a pearl on homeworld, I guess she couldn't use the weapon she had along with being one. So she used one of the weapons she could find or something. But further in, she obtains more and more free will, and loves using the weapon she thought she never had: her beloved spear!

I think that pearls always have weapons to defend the gems they’re made for as they would be the last line of defence against attackers
Correction: In technicality Lapis's Wings are her weapons since she dosen't brings the water around her to make them, NO she makes it and she could had of made new ones while she was cracked but no, she took the entire ocean while she could just make some wings…
This episode feels really rushed, I don't know where you got the Idea of no wars in the SU universe(not a pun) they just had no World Wars at least not WW2
Pearl is good with her hands which is amazing cause it’s not “normal” for pearls because they are “servants”
Pearl has a excellence in engineering too which in homeworld standards are not the norm
I'd say she couldn't at first, and could only summon it like she does other objects, which would take too long in the heat of battle, but after realizing that summoning a spear would be more effective than carrying several swords for if/when one breaks on a mission to the corrupted gems she started practicing and became able to do it without taking long. I also think it ties in with her saying she was essentially a human knight. I considered Rose/Pink her leige, and she sword fights to honor her and become able of the feats of gallantry she once accomplished during the war.
I think that Pearl has a weapon to protect her diamond, or her… master?
Or maybe Pearl had two weapons, her first weapon was a sword, but later on she got a spear

I don’t think pearls spear is actually apart of her because she does store stuff in her gem it could be something that bismuth created for her
Spoiler alert, Pearl belongs to White diamond originally, then belonging to Pink Diamond afterwards.
My theory is that she once belonged to white diamond.

I think before bismuth got poofed she made pearl some spears that she put inside her gem. But originally because she couldn’t summon a weapon she had to use swords instead.
Maybe pearl only uses her spear style when she doesnt have any swords around or when there isnt as much danger of the situation to make her use a fighting style that she is better at than her spear style as such she would have to use her sword style to fight off the enemy which is why she used swrods more often back then because she was in more danger more often and was against tougher opponents
With what we know now, I am assuming she learned swords because that is what pink diamond/ rose quartz knew how to use and they could have different techniques to work them best. Also depending on the battle she may have not wanted certain enemies to see her spear because it could have been a dead give away as to which pearl she is.
Short answer: she's a big gay nerd who loves knights.
That moment you realize the fans put more thought into the details of this show than the creators.

I think the other crystal gems taught pearl to sword fight before she developed her spear I think like the other pearls she had no weapon bc she was not made for combat but was able to create one with enough training and that’d be the first time she made her spear

I think her job was to train gems that could not summon a weapon. she therefore needed a proficiency in a weapon that bismuth could make for them. We have seen her to be a keen teacher with her hologram servants with Connie.

Maybe she learned how to use swords on arrival to earth before she knew she could summon a spear so when she finally was able to summon a spear she preferred a sword. Also she might have switched because maybe gem weapons that were summoned were stronger than regular crafted swords.

I think that its custom for homeworld pearls to use swords, but as she was gifted more freedom she started fighting with a spear, her using swords could just be because of her purpose.
Maybe because in the past she when she was a servant she wasn't used to fighting then after pink became rose and saw that she had a shield and that if diamonds can have weapons so she tried to pull the spear from her gem
When I try to figure out who my favorite character is, I just can't. I've tried to narrow it down but it never works.
