The townie episodes are good too people. I don't know what to say about you folks you b** about not having episodes. Then you b** about having "Filler" episodes. Steven Universe isn't a story about the hero's journey. it's a slice of life story mixed with fantasy. It's about understanding multiple cultures. The beach city episodes are to help you understand the beach city culture as a contrast. And don't get mad cuz you already get it cuz it shows for kids.

Okay, I have thoughts about this. One of the reasons possible for Beach City's new rapid changes could just be to highlight the shift in tone and increase the importance of the town in the events of the story – maybe allowing them to serve as a unified force against antagonistic gems from Homeworld. That would be pretty badass, and it does already feel like they're gearing up towards something in a way that strongly implies them preparing for the worst, maybe even war.
Another thought, a tamer one, is that now that Lars is in space, his obvious goal is to get home to Earth, along with the off-colours. There's no other plausible goal he would have. But I don't think Lars is destined to stay in Beach City much longer, after everything that's happened. I think he's found his purpose and his place with the off-colours and will ride or die with them. Which means he has to have a reason not to stay in Beach City, and coming back at last to find that the entire town has changed completely and drastically without him, leaving him out of the loop, moving on, may probably do a good job of solidifying his opinion that he never really belonged there and is meant to be doing greater things than selling donuts and trying to fit in. He's a space pirate, for goodness' sake. Imagine leaving that behind. So possibly he'll realise that Beach City never needed him, they've got things covered, and he has other places to rescue, and he and the off-colours will leave.
But.
Imagine if the crew combines the two concepts and throws it back at us twisted. By which I mean, the town continues to evolve under Nanefua. The townspeople continue to gear up, preparing for what we think would be any other direct attack from Homeworld. And then Lars and the gems arrive on Earth at last, excited and happy, and the citizens of Beach City declare war on them. Because their trust in gems and aliens has disappeared; they remember what happened with Topaz and Aquamarine, and they've sworn they'll never let any unfamiliar gems step foot on Earth again. Imagine Lars and the off-colours being forced to defend themselves, and eventually flee back to space, away from a populace that wants nothing to do with them.
Imagine.
This idea is simultaneously thrilling and terrifying. Imagine if Nanefua subtly becomes one of the villains of the story.

Nanefua first actually talks in beach party, the 18th episode of the first season…sorry i re-watch the whole series too many times and am becoming and encyclopedia for little facts like that O_o

Honestly this sounds like a huge potential plot point and I look forward to seeing how much they screw it up.
I like the idea of the humans being involved. Maybe a plotpoint that they have weapons like gem destabilizers ? Jasper with one (seeing as it insta poofed gems) trapped and beat all the crystal gems. The only way garnet won was by knocking it out if his hand and knocking jasper into the reactor. So an army of gems with gem destabilizers come in, and ya got humans on rocket skates insta poofing gems. The less agile people having blasters from a distance. Maybe peridot riding on a rocket powered deweys back ,levitating the gem destabilizers. It be an awesome plot point to see.
