11,000-hp HEMI V-8 engine time-lapse: DSR’s U.S. Army NHRA Top Fuel dragster | Redline Rebuild S2E3
Eleven thousand horsepower. Let that sink in for a moment: 11,000. But that’s just an approximate calculation for this NHRA Top Fuel monster. It could be more, but there’s no dynamometer on earth that can measure the gut-wrenching, ear-splitting, asphalt-shredding power of a top fuel dragster engine. These engines are constantly pulled apart and put back together to assure optimal performance on the drag strip. Most teams can completely disassemble and reassemble the engines in less than an hour. But who has an hour to watch an engine rebuild? Enter: Redline Rebuilds. We sent Hagerty’s Davin Reckow and the video crew down to Don Schumacher Racing in Brownsburg, Indiana, to give Tony Schumacher’s U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster engine the time-lapse video treatment. The result? Take a quick look and see for yourself.

REDLINE REBUILDS: We spend hundreds of hours tearing apart old engines, machining and obsessively cleaning the parts, and reassembling it all. We exhaustively chronicle every step along the way with thousands of photos, then boil it down to a fast-paced but incredibly detailed time-lapse video. Share the satisfaction of the finish and the first fire-up!
BARN FIND HUNTER: Tom Cotter literally wrote the book(s) on barn finds, starting with The Cobra in the Barn. Tom travels North America in his 1939 Ford Woodie Wagon, searching for forgotten classics in barns, backyards, dusty garages, and scrapyards and meeting the fascinating characters who open the barn doors for him and tell him their stories.
WHY I DRIVE: Deep dive profiles of owners of interesting cars. Owners narrate, sharing their particular passion, with evocative on-the-road footage. We take you to their homes and garages, showing you firsthand the turn of the key, the first high-rpm upshift, and their favorite roads and destinations, whether it’s the local racetrack, ice cream parlor, or canyon road.

Listening to one of these at the drag strip is a life changing endeavor…..the sound and vibration that rattles your bones is so instense and amazing
02:57 blurring the footage?
Wow wow just 2 valve instead of 4 or even 5? I thought multi valve+dohc is always "top" performance
Technical Masterpiece
Link the freaking song
El despropósito de hacer algo así
Why do they make these engines with so much horsepower when the tires can’t put it down? Isn’t it a waste in power?
I gotta ask why the top of the blower was blurred out on disassembly??
Omggg🤩🤩🤩🔥🔥🔥
Song?
I always wondered how fast your clothes would dry if an engine like this powered the spin cycle on your washing machine.
This could have been a great video but was done so shitty.
I have a lot of respect for these guys and what they do. But I would never brush a strawberry smoothie on the piston. 2:25
Put that thing in my car please
What is the three spiral thing in 3:34?
I used to work in the food industry for a decade and your machine shop is cleaner than anything I have seen in that industry. Impressive.
